He owned his own CPA firm for over 20 years and then did his own transition to be a partner in a firm that grew to become one of the most successful middle market CPA firms in Chicago. He gained a reputation for his insights into a business’ strengths and challenges and identifying what could hold it back or push it to the next level. He also watched business owners make good and poor transition choices. He then decided to focus the expertise he developed and hands-on experienced and formed Birkdale Transition Partners LLC.
Cathy Carroll, President, Legacy Onward, Inc.
Founder and President of Legacy Onward, Inc., a leadership coaching firm that specializes in family businesses. After growing up around her grandfather’s business, Cathy pursued a 20-year corporate career before leaving to run her father’s manufacturing business. After leading a turn-around, Cathy left to start Legacy Onward, bringing leadership coaching services to family businesses. Cathy earned a leadership coaching certificate at Georgetown University, an MBA at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and a BA at Boston College. Cathy serves on the board of Just Born and is an advisor to the Board of Alper Services. Cathy is also the Chicago Chapter President of the Family Firm Institute and serves as Secretary of the International Coach Federation-Chicago Chapter. In the non-profit arena, Cathy is Chair of the President’s Advisory Council at St. Xavier University and is a founding board member of A Leg To Stand On.
Kenneth B. Hoganson, Jr., RBI Advisors, LLC and Chairman/CEO Private Director Association

As an investment banker for over three decades and private director over two decades, Ken brings global competitive growth strategy and financial insights and experiences to a private company board of directors. Ken has served for over twenty years as a director to a multi-national, Midwestern manufacturing company with global sales force, and USA plus German production facilities. He is a founder and the Chairman/CEO of the Private Director Association (PDA). Ken is an internationally recognized leader in the merger and acquisition (M&A) profession. He is a past Association of Corporate Growth (ACG) Chicago Chapter President and past member of the ACG, International Board of Directors. In addition, he is the past president of the Chicago Chapter of the Family Firm Institute. Three plus decades of client profiles include family businesses, private equity firms, and large public corporations. For over 12 years, Ken held a senior business planning faculty position at the Keller Graduate School of Management. He has written several articles and conducted hundreds of courses on all aspects of the M&A process. He received a BS and a MBA from the University of Chicago.
