Nuts and Bolts of the Exit Planning Process

The trigger point moves business owners from concepts into taking action in integrating exit strategy practice and/or value growth acceleration into their daily business operations. It correlates the personal, financial and business assessments motivating the client to take action.  Properly executed, it positions the business owner and the business for a successful execution of the optimum ownership transition strategy. The focus of this session is on the practical application of the EPI process to real life business owner situations. The discussion will include the roles of client’s current team of trusted advisors, the specialized transition team members, and their importance in the process. It will also point out potential differences of opinion between the team members, conflicts between their respective scope of work, and how to handle those situations.  The presenters will also discuss actual cases and how the issues were resolved

His expertise extends to strategic planning, risk management, and corporate communication. He is known for his ability to successfully lead cross-functional collaboration and process improvement. He has guided companies through restructurings, exit strategy, and growth by acquisitions. Jim has over 38 years of experience including serving in public accounting practice as Managing Partner, Senior Tax Partner and Senior Audit Partner of a regional CPA firm, and serving in industry as Controller, International Treasurer and CFO. This extensive experience brings a well-rounded tool kit of financial skills to grow revenue, improve profitability, manage cash flows, and lead change management. Jim earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration concentration in Finance from Alfred University in Alfred, New York and his Master of Science in Management, concentration in Accounting/Taxation, from Florida International University in Miami, Florida.

Ron Salmon is the founder of Salmon Sims Thomas. His career includes five years with a Big Four accounting firm, three years in industry, and more than twenty-five years as a partner and owner in local CPA firms. Ron is a recognized expert in audit and financial consulting for the career school sector. He enjoys the personal and business relationships that are created when he helps clients realize their goals. Ron is also a Certified Exit Planner who works with clients in the successful transition of their businesses.

Joan helps business owners prepare for business ownership transition. She has more than 30 years of experience advising business owners and managing their business and non-business wealth.   The focus of Joan and her team is on the performance of the client’s single largest asset, their business.  Before establishing Business Wealth Solutions in 2003, Joan was associated with a Dallas-based mergers and acquisitions firm Prior to that, she grew and sold two of her own companies. She is Certified Exit Planning Advisor, Certified Business Intermediary, and a non-practicing Certified Financial Planner®. Joan holds a BA from the Univ of Dayton. She was a founding member of the Board of Governors of the Exit Planning Institute and founded the organization’s North Texas Chapter.
